The Story Behind Luthieri

Your instrument is your voice, the sound connected to your art and the foundation of your expression.

Every musician remembers the moment they first held the instrument that would become an extension of themselves, the tool you spend hours with everyday. Yet finding that instrument is rarely straightforward. The process can be uncertain and often relies on chance — on who you happen to meet, what you happen to hear, and how much you are willing to risk.

Rui, a violinist devoted to orchestral and contemporary chamber music, thought he had finally found the right violin —only to later discover that the seller had knowingly not mentioned hidden flaws in the instrument. A violin which was sold as flawless turned out to be damaged and poorly repaired, leaving behind a feeling of broken trust.

For Martinique, an orchestra violinist with a background in business, the challenge was different but no less discouraging. Relocating to Europe, she found herself adrift in an unfamiliar landscape of word-of-mouth recommendations and private collections that did not meet her needs or means. The process was exhausting, expensive and it made clear how little guidance musicians can count on in one of the most important decisions of their careers.

We met while studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig and quickly realized that these experiences, though different, revealed the same gap: musicians need clarity and trust in their search for instruments, while luthiers deserve visibility and recognition for their craft.

Luthieri was created with this in mind — a platform where musicians can find makers they can rely on, and where luthiers can share their work with confidence, knowing it will reach the musicians who need it most.
